Hello!We tell stories
Preserving culture through storytelling
Across the world, stories have served as a well-tested means of passing the traditions, culture and history of various people groups from one generation to the next.
As a child, I loved listening to my dad telling stories about Ijapa, Oluronbi, Olajumoke and other well known Yoruba folktale characters. These stories were exciting and even more memorable thanks to the call and response songs that often accompanied them. Looking back, the memories formed around these stories are some of my fondest.
Fast forward many years and now I’m dad to two beautiful girls with whom I want to share these stories, creating new memories around the same tales I grew up listening to.
A lot has changed though, the world feels smaller and I’m a lot more appreciative of my culture and heritage but my recollection of these stories isn’t great. That’s where this project comes in.
I really want the next generation (my kids especially) to experience the excitement and joy these stories gave me while learning about their culture and heritage. So the Mission is to collect and document the stories, myths and history of the Yoruba, Nigerian and African people.
These stories are an important part of our history and culture and they need to be preserved. My hope is that the next generation will enjoy these stories as much as I did and in turn, share them with their children.
